By verifying the cardholder’s identity, the disputes and fraudulent commercial electronic transactions are reduced and it is a way to satisfy the customer inquiries with respect to online purchases.

Verified by Visa is a new service that enables financial institutions to verify a cardholder’s identity during a purchase payment at participating online businesses.

Firstly, the cardholder must register only one time to the service by visiting the subscription site of the Bank issuer. During the registration process, a series of questions are formulated to the cardholder as security measures, afterwards the cardholder selects a password to authenticate and agrees to use a personal message as security so the Bank issuer can verify the cardholder during the transaction.

The 3-D Secure protocol supports the new payment service designed by Visa to improve and validate all payments made through Internet. 3-D Secure is an authentication technology that uses an encrypted Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and a Plug-in for the business server to inform and authenticate all participants in order to verify the cardholder during an online purchase. Also, it protects card payment information during internet transmission.
